Meat Dish or Platter c1835 Maker: Burton  Pattern:Vase of Flowers
Meat Dish or Platter c1835
Made by Samuel and John Burton of Burslem, Staffordshire, who were in business from 1832 to 1845. The pattern name is a given one and it is sometimes known as Lovick's pattern after the Norwich retailer, whose printed backstamp has been recorded on this design. No backstamp. The glaze is crazed with a a small area of minor associated discolouration on the front and outer rim, as part of this at 5 o'clock there is a hairline running in from the rim. There is an area of discolouration on the back. Sounds much worse than it looks, as on display it looks fine and if you don't tell your friends they will admire your beautiful platter.

Drainer c1835
Pretty floral design with Asiatic bird and butterfly, printed in pale blue. Sometimes known as Lovick's pattern, as previously the only marked pieces had the printed retailers mark "Lovick's China & Glass Emporium, Norwich". This drainer has the impressed mark "S & J B" on reverse, for Samuel & John Burton, Hanley, Staffordshire, active 1832-1845 and is the first piece found with the makers mark. As such it is now recorded by the Friends of Blue and Transferware Collectors Club. Three old rim chips and light crazing. Looks better than it reads!
