|Maker: Herculaneum Pattern:Net
Jug or Pitcher c1810
Net pattern is most often associated with Spode, although it was also made by Herculaneum, Job Ridgway and a maker using the initals CT, tentatively attributed to Charles Tittensor. This jug or pitcher is printed in a luscious deep blue, with a bright pearly glaze and has an ochre rim. There is no maker's backstamp, but from the style and ochre rim it is attributed to the Herculaneum factory at Liverpool. Words are inadequate to describe the quality and condition of this jug. There are a few minor glaze blemishes occuring in manufacture and a tiny faint star crack in the side, but hardly any signs of use. It would be virtually impossible to find a better example of the potter's craft from nearly 200 years ago and this jug is a museum piece. There is a different scene on the other side and a bold floral design under the spout.
