|Maker: Wolfe Mason and Lucock Pattern:Two Temples
Teapot and cover in hybrid paste porcelain with gilt and attributed to the short lived partnership of Wolfe Mason & Lucock of Liverpool, active 1796 to 1800. This superb old oval shape teapot is printed with Two Temples pattern also known as Broseley and at Liverpool simply as Pagoda. It has the heart shaped pouring guard and 9 hole lozenge strainer typical of this factory. The cover is an enigma as it fits perfectly and is absolutely right for the teapot, so it was almost certainly as supplied originally. However, it is printed with Dagger Border Pagoda pattern, which was also made by this factory. It is similar to Two Temples pattern, although with a distinctly different border design. No maker's backstamp on the teapot, although the cover has 1039 incised on the back. A similar teapot is illustrated in Plate 650 A Directory of British Teapots by Berthoud and Maskell and the online exhibition Printed British Pottery & Porcelain. There is a little wear to the gilt and to the inside rim a couple of manufacturing stress lines. Overall in excellent condition and a fine rare display piece.
Dimensions: 0.9 ltr, overall height 15 cm / 1.5 pint, overall height 6 ins
