Wood and Challinor of Tunstall, Staffordshire were active 1828 to 1845 and their Continental Views Series, consists of named European scenes. This scene depicts the Castle of Chillon, which is an island castle located at the east end of Lake Geneva and was made famous by Byron's poem The Prisoner of Chillon. Byron carved his name in one of the dungeons. Backstamp: blue printed cartouche with Castle of Chillon and the initials W & C. Light all over crazing and on the back a little minor discolouration.
