Dessert Plate c1825 Maker: Cambrian Pottery  Pattern:Pagoda and Palms
Dessert Plate c1825
This design also goes under the name of Chinese Washerwomen and sometimes Coffee Pot in the Window. There are two versions, this one with an exuberant palm tree and another where the palm is more stunted. It is usually attributed to Dillwyn of the Cambrian Pottery, Swansea, Wales and may have been the inspiration for Ye Olde Dillwyn Willow, introduced by Burgess & Leigh of Burslem in 1924 and now usually known as Burleigh Willow. The Burleigh Willow has similarities to this design, but there are significant differences, where the Burleigh engraver has introduced some of the key elements of traditional Willow pattern. No maker's backstamp, but impressed G for potter. Apart from some utensil marks and a few signs of wear on the rim, in excellent condition with sound glaze. Lovely plate.
