Meat Dish or Platter c1825 Maker: Carey  Pattern:Domestic Cattle Series
Meat Dish or Platter c1825
By John Carey & Sons of Lane End, Staffordshire, active 1818-1828. After John died in 1828 the sons continued trading as Thomas & John Carey until 1842. Their Domestic Cattle pattern is a series of 9 different rural scenes, incorporating a variety of different animals. On this small platter the scene is of two cows and three sheep being watched over by a young stockman. A feature of this series is the broad border of flowers and bird's nests containing eggs, reminiscent of a mossy bank still life painting. Typical blue printed backstamp of floral cartouche and Domestic Cattle within a banner. The condition is excellent with a couple of grazes or knocks to the rim from use, some fine crazing to the glaze and minor utensil marks, but overall bright and clean. A most attractive platter from a collected series.
Dimensions: 27.5 x 20.5 cm / 10.75 x 8 ins
