Maker: Chetham Pattern:Chinese Pagoda Wash Bowl c1845 This bowl is attributed to Jonathan Lowe Chetham of Commerce Steet, Longton active 1841 to 1862, from the initials JC in the backstamp. Usually the initials JC are attributed to Joseph Clementson, but the Chetham, Robinson & Son partnership, which preceded Jonathan Lowe Chetham at Commerce Street are known to have produced ewers and wash bowls in this Chinese Pagoda pattern, with a similar backstamp. The eastern scene is printed in a bright blue and the potting of the ewer is quite "chunky". Chinese Pagoda was a pattern name used also by Bovey Tracey Pottery Co and Elkin Knight and Bridgwood, but any similarities between the patterns are slight. Backstamp: blue printed cartouche backstamp with the pattern name Chinese Pagoda and the initials JC. Dimensions: 36.5 cm diameter 11.5 cm high / 14.5 ins diameter 4.5 ins high Our ref: 19CN99997 Buy similar now |

Maker: Chetham Pattern:Chinese Pagoda Ewer c1845 This ewer is attributed to Jonathan Lowe Chetham of Commerce Steet, Longton active 1841 to 1862. It has no backstamp, but was associated with a wash bowl with a printed cartouche backstamp with the pattern name Chinese Pagoda and the initials JC. Chinese Pagoda was a pattern name used also by Bovey Tracey Pottery Co and Elkin Knight and Bridgwood, but any similarities between the patterns are slight. The eastern scene is printed in a bright blue and the potting of the ewer is quite "chunky". The glaze has crazed all over and taken up light staining here and there. There are two firing cracks; one inside and one at the bottom of the front seam. Fundamentally this ewer is in good condition and if you like your antiques to look antique this is one for you. Dimensions: 28.5 cm high / 11.25 ins high Our ref: 19CN35868 Buy similar now |
