Bowl with Foot c1825-30 Maker: Don Pottery  Pattern:Italian Landscape Series
Bowl with Foot c1825-30
Made at the Don Pottery, Yorkshire during the Green period. This is a superb unusually large footed bowl, printed with scenic views within a wide decorative floral border, which also adorns the foot. It has a delightful hand crafted look to it and is in excellent condition. On the rim a couple of minor manufacturing chips have been decorated and glazed over and there is one tiny rub on the point of one handle. On the foot rim there is is a tiny nick, a minor manufacturing chip has been decorated and glazed over, as has another under the foot rim. That is all after a microscopic examination, because frankly you would be hard pressed to find a more magnificent centre piece bowl. The only maker's backstamp is an impressed H for the potter and the number 11 for the size.

Dessert Plate c1825 Maker: Don Pottery  Pattern:Union green
Dessert Plate c1825
The green glazed wares of the Don Pottery are well known and found almost exclusively on dessert wares. The design consists of the national emblems of the rose, thistle and shamrock, so we have given it the name Union, as one assumes it was inspired by the Acts of Union 1801. No maker's backstamp, but impressed worker's star mark, which is recorded as being used by Don Pottery. The glaze is crazed and on the back is an area of glaze, where this plate has touched another in the kiln and disfigured the glaze. The face is OK apart from a couple nicks or nibbles on the rim, which look as if they may have started as glaze faults.

This mark was in use from c1855 to 1893 and we suggest about 1860 for this plate. The plate has three stilt marks to face and crazing to the glaze, which has taken some light staining on the back.
