Maker: Fischer and Mieg Pattern:Unidentified Pattern colour Jug Toast Water c1865 A fabulous jug with an integral strainer and would originally have had a lid. They were used for making a traditional cure-all liquid the basis of which was toast steeped in hot water. This jug is decorated in hues of rich cobalt blue and terracotta highlighted with copious amounts of gilt. This is white hard paste porcelain and was made by Fischer & Mieg of the Pirkenhammer Porcelain Factory at Karlovy Vary, Carlsbad in English, in the Czech Republic, although in the past this part of Bohemia has been part of Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia? The factory was active from 1802 and whilst going through various ownerships survived into the 21st Century. Fischer & Mieg were active 1859 to 1873. Backstamp: Impressed F & M.
