Jug or Pitcher Toast Water c1845 Maker: Furnival  Pattern:Italia
Jug or Pitcher Toast Water c1845
Attributed to Thomas Furnival & Co of Miles Bank, Hanley, Staffordshire, active 1844-46. An unusual item, an attractive jug with an integral strainer and a lid. Jugs of this type are usually known as toast water jugs as they were ideal for making that traditional cure-all liquid, for which a recipe is available on request. It is not often that these jugs survive, especially with its original lid. There is a small piece out of the inner rim of the lid and some minor staining under the rim, neither of which is visible, when the lid is in place. The jug has a small stress crack in the strainer and the spout and handle have some wear and rubbing through use. Overall both pieces are in excellent condition, with sound bright glaze. No maker's backstamp, but items in this design have been recorded marked with the initials T F & Co. for Thomas Furnival & Co.
Dimensions: 1.2 lt 15 cm high / 2 pint 5.75 ins high
