With gilt. A fabulous dish on decoration foot and with extremely ornate side handle. Backstamp: Stone China No 21. There is a little minor wear to the rim otherwise excellent condition.

Hicks and Meigh of Shelton, Staffordshire, active 1806 to 1822, were important manufacturers of stone or ironstone china and their quality was generally considered superior to that of Mason and Davenport. They used numbers to identify their patterns and this is number 21, a chinoserie inspired floral design printed in lovely shades of blue with a white gadroon rim and gilt highlights to the ornate handles and foot. Typical blue printed backstamp of Royal Coat of Arms with Stone China and No 21 below. A soup plate is illustrated in Godden's Guide to Ironstone, Stone and Granite Wares by Geoffrey Godden, page 259 plate 201. This attractive dish has an under rim chip which just peeks through and a few minor signs of wear, but overall good condition.

Sauce Boat c1820
Hicks and Meigh stoneware was good quality and this sauce boat is decorated in No 21 pattern with added gilt highlights to feet and handle. Some minor firing lines in manufacture, but lovely condition. Blue printed Royal Arms with STONE CHINA and No 21 beneath.

With gilt. A wonderful large ladle, beautifully patterned inside the bowl and along the line of the stem. No backstamp. There is a small firing fault where the stem joins the bowl otherwise excellent condition.

They used numbers to identify their patterns and this is number 21, a chinoserie inspired floral design printed in lovely shades of blue on soup plate with a white gadroon rim. Typical blue printed backstamp of Royal Coat of Arms with Stone China and No 21 below. Excellent condition, few signs of use, but the glaze is sound and bright. A similar soup plate is illustrated in Godden's Guide to Ironstone, Stone and Granite Wares by Geoffrey Godden, page 259 plate 201.
