Used at Kings College, Cambridge for most of the 1800s this service was made for them originally by Masons and subsequently their successors Francis Morley and G L Ashworth & Bros. Kings was founded in 1440 and depicted on the plate is the west front of the famous Chapel, built between 1446 and 1538. Masons were famous for their Patent Ironstone China. This platter has a blue printed backstamp Masons over a crown and Patent Ironstone China plus Ashworths, which would date it 1862 or later. There is also the name Lawrance printed. James Lawrance father and son were College Cooks at Kings and had to provide the cutlery and china as well as the food. The china was marked with their name to show ownership and to ensure they received their china back at the end of their contract! The platter will come with a short written history of the College and the dinner service.

Used at Kings College, Cambridge this service was made for them by Masons. Kings was founded in 1440 and depicted either side of the tureen and on the cover is the west front of the Chapel, built between 1446 and 1538. Backstamp: Mason's Patent Ironstone China. Sadly this tureen has seen life! It has chips around the rim, a few blemishes around the outside, small hairline to the rim and a manufacturing fault to the foot. The lid is in has a small chip and tiny hairline to the inner rim and a few minor blemishes.

Used at Kings College, Cambridge this service was made for them by Masons. Kings was founded in 1440 and depicted on this soup plate is the west front of the Chapel, built between 1446 and 1538. Backstamp: Mason's Patent Ironstone China and impressed Mason's Patent Ironstone China. A little surface scratching with a little wear and discolouration to the inner rim and a small blemish just above the left tower. On the back there is a little blue smudging and some minor blemishes.

An absolutely fabulous piece with central handle and beautifully decorated. Used at Kings College, Cambridge this service was made for them by Masons. Kings was founded in 1440 and depicted on the top of the stand is the west front of the Chapel, built between 1446 and 1538. Backstamp: blue printed Mason's over crown and Patent Ironstone China on drape and impressed Mason's Patent Ironstone China round the lower rim of the dish itself. There is a small firing fault to the inner curve on the top and a little minor wear to the rim, overall excellent condition.

Miniature Plate c1820
An absolutely delightful little plate and something of a rarity. In addition to the impressed two line backstamp Masons Patent Ironstone China it also has the blue printed backstamp of James Lawrance. James Lawrance was appointed assistant cook in 1803 and college cook in 1817. On his death in 1843 he was succeeded by his son, also James, who continued as head cook until his own death in 1891. When James senior took charge of the kitchens he ordered the first college dinner service from Masons, decorated with this view of the Chapel, and this continued in use with replacements until the end of the 19th century.This small plate has a few minor signs of age, mainly on the back, but overall is in excellent condition.
