Maker: Meir Pattern:River Fishing Dessert Dish c1825 John Meir of Greengates, Tunstall active from 1812 and succeeded by John Meir & Son. Delightful English country scene. No maker's backstamp. The glaze is very finely crazed, hardly noticeable, as it is bright and clean. Three stilt marks on face. Short hairline running in from rim at 9 o'clock, gets lost in the pattern, so does not spoil the look of this charming dish. Maker: Meir Pattern:River Fishing Plate c1820 Made by John Meir of Tunstall, active from 1812 and later John Meir & Son of Greengates Pottery, Tunstall. Attractive English country scene of two boys fishing in river, with cows and water-mill beyond and mansion in distance. Printed in fairly dark blue and lovely sense of perspective from the use of light and dark tones. Backstamp is an impressed MEIR. Some signs of use and a rub to the rim, but the glaze is sound and this whole plate is bright and clean. Lovely smaller plate in this popular pattern. Impressed backstamp MEIR. Couple of small areas of wear to rim of bowl and border of plate, with a rim chip at 2 o'clock. On the back the foot rim has some minor nicks and chips.
