Plate c1825 Maker: Pountney  Pattern:Hexagonal Dome
Plate c1825
This pattern is an interesting mix of classical temple or mausoleum, with its hexagonal dome, in the background and people and fencing that have an oriental look to them in the foreground. It is found rarely and the name is a given one by the Transferware Collectors Club database. We have attributed this plate to Pountey and Allies of Bristol active 1816 to 1835, but this is purely based on the impressed P backstamp. Fine crazing with a little discolouration on the back. There is a piece of grit in the glaze at 11 o'clock in the tree and a couple of other very small blemishes. On the inner rim at 4 o'clock there is a mark, where this plate has touched another in the kiln.

Dinner Plate c1825 Maker: Pountney  Pattern:Willow
Dinner Plate c1825
Made at the famous Bristol Pottery during the Pountney & Allies period 1816 to 1835. Marked examples by this pottery are relatively uncommon and few examples of the traditional Willow pattern are recorded. Impressed backstamp of Pountney & Allies curved over cross and blue printed cartouche Warranted Ironstone with P & A beneath. The design has been well engraved and printed, although there is some surplus colour, almost as if it is slightly flown. The glaze is finely crazed, which has taken up a little light staining on the back. On the rim at eleven o'clock there has been a knock taking off a bit of glaze and clay. Overall though, despite the description it is a bright and clean piece.
