Stunning is the best way to describe this fabulous dish printed in a rich blue with tree and well feature. This is a given name for this charming scene, which was derived from two aquatints of Indian street scenes in T & W Daniell's Oriental Scenery. The Sacred Tree of the Hindoos at Gyah, Bahar provided the tree on the left and View on the Chitpore Road, Calcutta the buildings on the right. No backstamp. It is crazed and there is some rubbing and glaze loss to the outer rim at 1 & 2 o'clock. There are a couple of minor glazing blemishes to the face and on the back there are 2 old chips to the stand. Sounds much worse than it looks this is a wonderful dish.

Meat Dish or Platter c1825
Made by John & Richard Riley of Nile Street and Hill Works, Burslem active 1796-1828. The scene in part is taken from Claude's painting Europa, which is now in the Royal Collection. It depicts Europa on the back of a tame bull, which form Zeus had taken to get close to her! She found him so gentle that she stayed on his back as he swam to Crete. Backstamp: Riley's Semi-China. Crazed with some discolouration although this is mainly on the back and surface scratching. There is also wear on the back and to the rim, the latter resulting in loss of glaze. Overall in spite of all this is a lovely dish.

Made by John & Richard Riley of Nile Street and Hill Works, Burslem active 1796-1828. The scene in part at least is taken from Claude's painting Europa, which is now in the Royal Collection. Blue printed backstamp of oval Garter with the words Riley's and Semi-China. The glaze is finely crazed, with a little, light associated staining on the border at the bottom. The staining is greater on the back. There is wear and mottling to the rim and a small rim chip has been restored. Apparently a well used plate, although the face has survived the best of all. Overall clean and bright.

Riley's design is sometimes called Girl Piping. No maker's backstamp, but this is a shape of plate used by Riley. There is a little minor wear to the rim, but overall this is in superb condition. The glaze is sound and this is a really clean example

Dessert Plate Kingsweston Gloucestershire c1825
John and Richard Riley of Burslem, Staffordshire active 1796-1828. Their Large Scroll Border Series is perhaps their best known design and was made mainly for export. Kings Weston is a country house near Bristol, designed by Vanburgh and completed in 1725. Impressed backstamp Riley and usual blue printed cartouche with Kingsweston, Gloucestershire and Riley. There is light crazing to the glaze, which has mainly affected the back, where there is a little light staining. The face is bright and clean.

Several makers produced variants of this design and sometimes it is called Basket and Flowers, simply Basket or Basket of Flowers. This is a rather bold, vibrant version, in which the flowers dominate the basket and examples have been found impressed Riley for John & Richard Riley of Burslem, active 1796-1828. Their name for the pattern was apparently Peonies or Mosaic. No maker's backstamp. A tiny rim chip on the back of the piercing and the glaze is finely crazed, but bright and clean. Looks fine.

Drainer c1820
John and Richard Riley of Burslem, Staffordshire active 1796-1828. They took their inspiration from the paintings of Claude Lorraine, an artist born in France, who spent most of his life in Italy. The influence of the Italian landscape is obvious in this view. This is a stunning drainer. There is a little minor light crazing and some wear to the rim. On the back there are two small chips to the underside rim and a little minor staining around the holes. These are all really minor and this is a lovely lovely drainer.

A fabulous jug of elegant shape, made of white translucent porcelain, with gadroon rims and decorated with a floral design in teracotta and rich cobalt blue. All enhanced by an intricate embossed flower decoration on both sides of the jug. No backstamp. There are a few areas of light discolouration otherwise excellent condition.

Jug or Pitcher c1825
Attributed to John & Richard Riley of Burslem, Staffordshire active 1796-1828. A large, gorgeous jug or pitcher of elegant shape, made of white translucent porcelain, with gadroon or pie crust rims to neck and foot and decorated with a floral design in the Gaudy Welsh or Dutch style in Imari colours and gilt. The lovely rich blues, terracotta and gilt are enhanced by the intricate moulded flower decoration on both sides of the jug. It has fine all over crazing, there are a couple of firing cracks to the lower spur on the handle and a small glazing blemish to the body. Sounds much worse than it looks this is a really wonderful jug. A similar jug may be seen in The Potteries Museum, Stoke on Trent and is illustrated in "An Illustrated Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain" by Geoffrey Godden on page 278 plate 486.

Attributed to John & Richard Riley of Burslem, Staffordshire active 1796-1828. A large, gorgeous jug or pitcher of elegant shape, made of white translucent porcelain, with gadroon or pie crust rims to neck and foot and decorated with a floral design in the Gaudy Welsh or Dutch style in Imari colours and gilt. Just a minor knock to the foot and fine crazing to the glaze, otherwise absolutely wonderful and rare to find a jug this large in such excellent condition. No maker's backstamp, but red script pattern number 177 on base. A similar jug may be seen in The Potteries Museum, Stoke on Trent and is illustrated in "An Illustrated Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain" by Geoffrey Godden on page 278 plate 486.

Printed in a pale blue with the lovely border of Roses, Thistles and Shamrocks surrounding the central rural scene of cattle. Has fine all over crazing with some minor associated discolouration mainly to the rim and two of the stilt marks have absorbed a little stain, overall though in excellent condition. No makers marks.
