Maker: Riley Pattern:Unidentified Pattern colour Jug or Pitcher c1825 Attributed to John & Richard Riley of Burslem, Staffordshire active 1796-1828. A large, gorgeous jug or pitcher of elegant shape, made of white translucent porcelain, with gadroon or pie crust rims to neck and foot and decorated with a floral design in the Gaudy Welsh or Dutch style in Imari colours and gilt. The lovely rich blues, terracotta and gilt are enhanced by the intricate moulded flower decoration on both sides of the jug. It has fine all over crazing, there are a couple of firing cracks to the lower spur on the handle and a small glazing blemish to the body. Sounds much worse than it looks this is a really wonderful jug. A similar jug may be seen in The Potteries Museum, Stoke on Trent and is illustrated in "An Illustrated Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain" by Geoffrey Godden on page 278 plate 486. Dimensions: 22 cm high, 1.8 ltr / 8.5 ins high, 3 pint Our ref: 19CN34942 Buy similar now |
