Meat Dish or Platter c1850 Maker: Smith  Pattern:Asiatic Pheasants
Meat Dish or Platter c1850
This is a magnificent platter in excellent condition with only a few signs of use and the glaze is sound and bright. This is an early example of Asiatic Pheasants and the lightness of the potting and quality of the print, bear out this early date. It really is a find and was made by William Smith of the Stafford Pottery, South Stockton in Yorkshire, who is best remembered for marking his wares Wedgwood or Wedgewood to achieve better sales until an injunction sought by the Josiah Wedgwood factory stopped him. The choice of Stafford as the name of his Pottery shows the extent of his marketing and desire to be associated with the famous Staffordshire Potteries. Impressed backstamp Stafford Pottery, South Stockton, which was used by Smith from 1825 to 1855.

Bowl c1850 Maker: Smith  Pattern:Unidentified Pattern
Bowl c1850
We believe this to be made by W Smith & Co of Brussels. This is very pretty. A large shallow bowl with the central scene surrounded by a lovely wide floral border. It has light crazing, some surface scratching and a little minor wear around the rim. At some time on the back it has been marked with an indelible pen, presumably for security reasons, although this has faded significantly now. On the outside there are a couple of minor firing faults - overall though a lovely bowl
