Meat Dish or Platter c1820 Eaton Hall
A stunning large dish with beautiful wide floral border made by Ralph Stevenson and a view from his Lace Border Series. Eaton Hall, south of Eccleston in Cheshire UK, has been the seat of the Grosvenor family since the 15th century. Extensive remodelling and improvements over the decades matched its owners' upward mobility, as they successively bore the titles Baronet and Earl Grosvenor, then Marquess and finally Duke of Westminster. The first substantial house was built 1675-1683. It served until the 1st Marquess, Robert Grosvenor, hired William Porden to design a large and ornate mansion in the Gothic style. This took ten years to complete (1803-1813) and more wings were added in the 1820s. The interior was equally opulent; the young Victoria visited in 1832 and pronounced it "magnificent" in her journal. It was further enlarged in the 1870s, but by the 1960s was found to be infested with dry rot and torn down. Backstamp: Eaton Hall Lace Border RS There is a little wear with some loss of glaze to the rim and a couple of very small minor blemishes to the face. On the back a little minor wear, overall excellent condition.
