Walsh Mausoleum of Sultan Purveiz near Allahabad China - 2 items found.

Maker: Walsh  Pattern:Mausoleum of Sultan Purveiz near Allahabad Plate c1820 At one time this pattern was considered to be one of the series of India patterns by Herculaneum, despite the border design being quite different. Subsequently marked examples have been found enabling this pattern to be attributed to William Walsh of Newcastle Street, Burslem, Staffordshire, active c1815 to 1822. The scene depicts the Mausoleum of Sultan Purveiz, near Allahabad in India, with a procession of the Moghul or Mohammedan, Governor of Delhi in the foreground and is a combination of various elements from different aquatints published in 1796 in Oriental Scenery by Thomas Daniell. The pattern is engraved with lots of detail and carefully printed in varying tones of blue, which convey a powerful sense of both perspective and scale. No backstamp. Overall in excellent condition. A little minor wear to rim, some utensil marks and the glaze is finely crazed, but this is a really bright and clean plate. No maker's backstamp.
